July is observed as the Month of Tribute at Truong Son Martyrs Cemetery, in the war-torn central province of Quang Tri, where tens of thousands of martyrs are resting in peace.
Millions of people are flocking to the cemetery to burn incense and pay floral tributes to fallen combatants who sacrificed their lives during the past struggles for national independence and freedom.
Among them are the combatants’ relatives and veterans, who, despite their age, travel the length and breadth of the country to commemorate their comrades and recall the old days.
Located at Ben Tat in Vinh Truong commune, Gio Linh district, the Truong Son Martyrs Cemetery, the largest of its kind in Vietnam, is home to 10,263 graves of soldiers who laid down their lives on the battlefields along the Truong Son mountain range, commonly known as the Ho Chi Minh Trail.
Ho Tat Ai, head of the cemetery management board, said 80% of the martyrs buried in Truong Son were young, from just 18-22 years of age.
